With the introduction of The Munich Times, the city of Munich becomes more international

The Munich Times - that sounds good! I am extraordinarily pleased that Germany's first English language local newspaper has started in Munich. What was already available online, is now in print and providing its' readers with current news and information about Munich, as well as economic topics, sports, art and culture.

Not only will the numerous tourists coming to Munich benefit from this new publication, but also the employees and managers of our city's many international companies who are temporarily finding their feet on Bavarian soil or who are planning a more permanent stay. The Munich Times is an outstanding opportunity to get to know the city better. In addition, the publication of The Munich Times provides Bavarian school children with an exciting new medium through which they may improve their English by reading about local topics that they can relate to their surroundings.

I wish the publishers and the entire team at The Munich Times all the best and hope that it may always provide Munich with a well-researched, independent and up-to-date newspaper filled with "Daily News for Munich".

The Munich Times - das klingt doch gut! Es freut mich ganz besonders, dass Deutschlands erste englischsprachige lokale Tageszeitung jetzt in München startet. Wie schon zuvor im Internet wird The Munich Times nun auch als gedruckte Ausgabe ihre Leserinnen und Leser tagesaktuell mit Informationen und Nachrichten aus und über München, aus Wirtschaft, Sport, Kunst und Kultur versorgen.??

Für die vielen Touristen in unserer internationalen und weltoffenen Stadt, aber auch für Arbeitnehmer und Manager mit ihren Familien aus dem Ausland, die sich bei uns ganz oder zeitweilig niederlassen, ist The Munich Times ein hervorragender Einstieg, München noch schneller noch besser kennen zu lernen. Interessant finde ich auch die Idee, mit The Munich Times Schülerinnen und Schülern ein spannendes Medium an die Hand zu geben, mit dem sie ihr Englisch anhand von Münchner Themen verbessern können.

In yet another reminder of the reality of gun violence in the United States, an attack took place during the Mother's Day Parade in New Orleans. Despite an on-going tax evasion investigation, under-fire Uli Hoeness is set to remain as president of the supervisory board of treble-seeking Bayern Munich until at least the end of the season.

The Bavarian State Parliament is turning up the pressure on those accused of nepotism within the government branch. Barbara Stamm has called for the names of all those politicians who have relatives under their personal employ to be published. As of yesterday, there is free wifi for all to use at Munich's Marienplatz. It is part of an initiative by the City called M-WLAN and is a collaboration of the government with their daughter company M-Net, an internet provider.

Cancer cells can escape from tumors, sneak through the bloodstream, and seed new tumors, or metastases, in distant organs. New rent laws for Munich

A new law regulating tenant rates comes into effect today. The law will lower the rent ceiling, which will be welcome news to many of Munich's residents who pay some of the highest rents in the country. The law will set the rate of rent increases to a maximum of 15 percent in 3 years. Previously the rate was at 20%. The new law has been criticised by the German Tenants Association, however. Munich's favorite chill out spot right behind the Rathaus has returned to its green glory!

Originally closed off in 2011, the green patch behind Munich's town hall has been under construction for around two years. A research team led by Dr Paul Tesar at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, USA, has transformed skin cells into a type of brain cells that is destroyed in neurodegenerative diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.
