Several gallons of diesel fuel flowed into Tegernsee on Wednesday having entered the pristine lake by way of the Moosbach. The fire service has erected barriers to help stop the affected area from spreading.
The cause of the pollution has been identified as being a construction company from Bavaria, which is currently doing asphalt work on Wallbergstraße. Heavy rains caused the diesel, which was being used as fuel on the site, to be washed away into the Moosbach, and from there being flushed into Tegernsee.
Neither the exact order of events has yet been released by police nor has the precise extent of the damage. An investigation is to be launched in order to ascertain how much water has been polluted.
